Tennis is offered at every skill level at Camp Lohikan! Beginner players are introduced to basic tennis skills in an atmosphere of encouragement and support. Campers progress at their own pace and move up in the program as their skills improve. More advanced players receive skill appropriate instruction and participate in their choice of tournaments, intercamp games and tennis clinics.
Camp Lohikan's Tennis Program is perfect for the individual interested in learning to play tennis as well as the junior athlete looking to improve his or her game. Many campers choose Lohikan over specialty tennis camps because of the quality of our tennis program as well as the breadth of our program.
At Lohikan campers can schedule as much as 25 hours of tennis instruction a week! And there’s more to do at Lohikan than at any specialty tennis camp. For instance, where can you do tennis in the morning and then do bungee trampoline, jet skiing, rock band or any of our arts, sports, and adventure programs in the afternoon? The choices are almost endless!
Our tennis director is a tennis professional with teaching experience in the camp setting. Our instructors are recruited from around the world. Tennis staff instructors are undergraduate/graduate students with college level playing experience and, in most cases, teaching experience.
Lohikan's tennis program philosophy is based upon our experience that teaching with FUN is the best way for kids to learn. When campers arrive at the tennis center they are evaluated and placed in one of three ability levels. Class sizes are never larger than 4 campers to 1 instructor. This ensures that everyone receives enough individual attention to maximize the learning experience.
Beginner Program Level 1: Instruction concentrateson stroke analysis, drill and play situations, corrective techniques, and the use of the ball machines for individual practice.
Intermediate Program Level 2: This level is reserved for the intermediate players who are ready to make the transition from lessons to competitive tennis. Participants are instructed in singles and doubles play strategies. Emphasis is placed on drills designed to improve stroke mechanics, reflexes, anticipation, and footwork.
Advance Program Level 3: The advanced program focuses on drilling to enhance and groove strokes. The improvement of mental toughness is also stressed for better match play, footwork and anticipation. Lohikan's Advanced Tennis Clinic is a five day clinic scheduled every 2 weeks during the summer. The clinic is designed for advanced players and concentrates on improving the individual's playing skills for singles and doubles play. Participation is FREE for first-time campers and registration is available by CLICKING HERE.
