Young or old, Lohikan’s Rock Climbing Program is designed to provide a fun and challenging introduction to the sport of climbing for every age group.
Campers go through a climbing orientation class supervised by a team of climbing specialists. Campers learn safety protocols, basic top rope rock climbing techniques, knot tying, belaying, and rappelling.
Safety is paramount. A helmet and harness are required to be worn on every climbing and outdoor adventure element over 2.5 feet.
Camp Lohikan observes the "challenge-by-choice" philosophy. Campers choose the difficulty of the climb, from introductory, to the more challenging, all the way up to our most challenging climb. It's entirely up to the camper. Everyone is belayed. Campers receive all the encouragement and guidance needed to meet the challenge selected. No one is ever forced or compelled to do anything with which they are not comfortable. This is a pressure-free educational environment.
Our climbs are situated at 3 locations. The 3-sided tower and the climbing wall are located at the Outdoor Adventure Activity Site. The beginner rock formation is located across the lake near the beaver dam. The advanced rock face is located on the top of the south mountain.
The climbing tower is a 3-sided 40’ structure designed to offer 3 climbing challenges of increasing difficulty. The 4th side is used for the helicopter rappel element. Off the tower are the Burmese Bridge and the Tower Zip Line.
The advanced rock face located on the top of the south mountain offers our campers a variety of climbing routes and difficulty on real rock. Participants are belayed with a rope from above attached to the climber's harness, and the climber then navigates up the rock using just his or her hands and feet. Participants do not set bolts, cams, nuts, or other specialty equipment. We have climbs ranging from our climbing wall to our 40’ climbing tower, and from simple rock faces to vertical rock faces.
The instruction and climbing challenges are here!
All we need is YOU to make it happen!!!
