Most of Camp Lohikan's campers come from the New York Metropolitan area but over the years our camper base has expanded to include children from all over the United States and overseas as well.

International campers are welcome at Camp Lohikan! They add a valuable dimension to our camp experience by sharing their cultural uniqueness and forming international bonds of friendship that extend beyond camp.

Appreciation and acceptance are two important values that we teach and practice at Camp Lohikan. International campers will find our camp community to be a welcoming environment where it's easy to make friends and be respected for who you are.

Camp Lohikan's First-Time Camper Program has special application to our international campers. Campers joining us for their first summer receive extra attention at Camp Lohikan! Not only do we assign experienced, returning counselors to the camper's cabin, we also have mature adults (division directors) who live within the cabin clusters and are available to our campers 24 hours a day. Division Directors interact with each camper on a daily basis and confirm that the camper is healthy, happy and having a positive experience. We've been so succesful with our First-Time Camper Program that we back it up with our Great Camp Guarantee - If for any reason the camper leaves camp early, we'll provide a pro rata tuitin refund.

ENGLISH TUTORING

Although many of our international campers come to camp with a working knowledge of the English language, most of our international campers enroll with the goal of improving their English. By simply being immersed into our English-speaking camp community, we have found that the international camper's use and knowledge of the English language improves dramatically. To build upon this and take the child's English speaking ability to the next level we make private and small group tutoring classes available. We have certified teachers employed at camp for this purpose.

FREE ENGLISH TUTORING

Tutoring makes such a big difference in improving the camper's English speaking skills that we provide three English tutoring classes (small group) free of charge. Each class extends approximately one hour. English classes are optional and scheduled the first week of the international camper's enrollment at camp. To register for the Free Tutoring Classes please click here.

Additional private or small group tutoring classes can be scheduled and are available from certified teachers at the rate of $20 per 1/2 hour class.

TRAVELING TO CAMP

International campers are met at the airport (immediately after passing through customs/security) by a senior member of our staff.

If the camper has a cell phone which can make an international call, the parent will be telephoned by their child after being met by the camp staff member. If not, the camper will telephone the parents from our camp office as soon as he or she arrives in camp. The camper's division director will introduce the camper to the cabin counselors and cabinmates and will assist the camper with settling in.

When traveling home a senior member of our staff will drive the camper to the airport and supervise him/her until the security clearance area. We recommend that parents arrange with the airlines for their child to travel as an "unaccompanied minor" as this will ensure that the airline personnel will supervise the camper beyond the security checkpoint.

COMMUNICATION DURING CAMP

All campers have access to email at Camp Lohikan. Campers can email home every day. It's part of the daily program. Campers can also receive emails. The camp prints the emails and delivers mail to the camper on a daily basis.

Parents can also make arrangements to telephone their camper during their stay at camp.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

After enrollment, parents are be supplied with a Parents Handbook which includes information designed to help with making preparations for camp, i.e. recommended clothing list.

HOW TO ENROLL

International campers use the same enrollment application used by other campers. Typically, payments are made by wired bank transfers. This information is available by contacting our camp office at info@lohikan.com.
